The construction of the railway overbridge at Malorna on the Basti Highway is expected to speed up soon. This bridge is a key part of the Khalilabad-Bansi rail project. The district administration of Sant Kabir Nagar is now taking active steps to resolve a land dispute that has stalled the work for some time.
Why was the Malorna overbridge work stopped?
The construction was stuck due to a dispute over 1700 meters of land. Some local farmers claimed ownership of this land and demanded compensation, with some even filing petitions in court. Initially, the NHAI claimed ownership of the land but later withdrew its claim from some parts, which increased the conflict between the farmers and authorities.
What is the current status and next steps?
District Magistrate Alok Kumar has directed the Additional District Magistrate to call a meeting with Railway and Forest Department officials. This meeting aims to settle the land issues so the Railway can take possession and start construction without any hurdles. Site Incharge Sattar Ali mentioned that the service road work would have progressed further if the land matter was cleared.
