Passengers traveling on North Eastern Railway (NER) trains will no longer have to run around looking for mechanics when the AC stops working. The administration has fixed specific seats for AC maintenance staff on 72 long-distance trains. This move aims to ensure immediate help during technical glitches or cooling issues, saving passengers from the hassle of searching through power cars or random coaches.

Where can you find the AC staff now?
According to the latest orders issued in February 2026, the railway administration has reserved specific berths for AC Coach Incharges and Assistants. These seats will now be clearly visible on the reservation chart so that anyone can locate them easily. If you face any cooling issues, you can head directly to these seats:
- Standard Express Trains: The staff will be available in Coach S2 on Berth numbers 79 and 80.
- Humsafar Express: You can find the technical team in Coach B1 on Berth numbers 71 and 72.
Why was this new rule implemented?
Deputy Chief Commercial Manager Ashish Kumar Tripathi issued this directive to improve passenger convenience and staff efficiency. Earlier, technical staff had to rest in power cars or search for empty seats during long journeys that could last up to 130 hours. This made it difficult for passengers to find them quickly during an emergency. By fixing their location in the S2 or B1 coaches, the railways ensure that help is just a few steps away. Additionally, this move frees up berths in First and Second AC coaches, which were earlier used by staff, making more room for passengers on the waiting list.
