Commuters in Patna have a reason to cheer as the metro service is gearing up to extend its run up to Malahi Pakadi. The technical hurdles have been cleared with the completion of the electrical inspection this February. Authorities are now preparing for the final safety audit scheduled for late February, which will pave the way for passenger operations to likely begin in the first week of March 2026.

Technical Inspection Completed Successfully
The project reached a major milestone on February 14, 2026, when Electrical Inspector General Anand Kumar finished the inspection of the new section. The team checked the overhead electrical equipment and traction systems between Malahi Pakadi and Bhootnath using a specialized maintenance vehicle. The test confirmed that the power supply and safety systems meet the required standards.
Earlier this month, the power substation at Malahi Pakadi was also energized. This ensures a steady supply of electricity for station facilities like lights, escalators, and lifts, making the infrastructure ready for public use.
Route Expansion and Ticket Prices
Once the new section opens, the Patna Metro will operate across five stations, adding Khemnichak and Malahi Pakadi to the existing route from New ISBT. This expansion completes the 6.5 km priority corridor, offering better connectivity for residents of East Patna. The trains are expected to run every 20 minutes from 5:00 AM to 11:00 PM.
Key Operational Details:
- Route: New ISBT to Malahi Pakadi (5 Stations)
- Base Fare: ₹15 (0-3 km)
- Max Fare (Section): ₹30 (Malahi Pakadi to New ISBT)
- Train Capacity: 1,092 passengers (3 Coaches)
- Amenities: Parking facility planned near Malahi Pakadi station
Final Safety Audit Before Launch
The Commissioner of Metro Railway Safety (CMRS), Janak Kumar Garg, is scheduled to visit from February 25 to February 28, 2026. This team will conduct a strict audit of the tracks, signaling systems, and passenger safety measures. If the metro passes this final check, the commercial run for the public is expected to start in the first week of March.
