The Central Cabinet has approved the construction of third and fourth rail lines for the Budhwal-Sitapur section in Uttar Pradesh. This project is a key part of the Delhi-Guwahati high-density line. Rail Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced that this development will improve connectivity across several districts and reduce train congestion.

What are the key details of the project?

The Budhwal-Sitapur project is part of a larger multi-tracking plan costing ₹23,437 crore. The Ghaziabad-Sitapur section alone will involve a 403 km expansion with an estimated cost of ₹14,926 crore. To ensure smooth movement, 9 large bridges will be built as part of this specific project. The government aims to complete these works by 2030-31 under the PM Gati Shakti National Master Plan.

How will this benefit the common passengers and region?

The project focuses on reducing the heavy load on existing tracks, which are currently operating far beyond their capacity. It will provide better rail access to about 4,161 villages, benefiting nearly 83 lakh people. The expansion will also help in faster movement of goods and passengers, reducing logistics costs and carbon emissions.
