Northeast Frontier Railway extends Mumbai Central Katihar Festival Special train services
To accommodate the anticipated surge in passenger traffic during the upcoming festive season, the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has announced the extension of the Mumbai Central – Katihar – Mumbai Central Festival Special train. This move is designed to provide significant relief to migrants and local passengers traveling between Mumbai and the Seemanchal region during Durga Puja, Diwali, and Chhath Puja.
Key Highlights:
- 7 additional trips in both directions for the Mumbai Central-Katihar Festival Special.
- Train 09190 (Katihar to Mumbai Central) will run on September 8, 15, and October 20, 27, and November 3, 10, and 17, 2026.
- Train 09189 (Mumbai Central to Katihar) will run on September 5, 12, and October 17, 24, 31, and November 7 and 14, 2026.
- 14 additional trips for the Kanpur Central – Guwahati Special (04127/04128) in both directions.
- No changes to the current schedule, stoppages, and coach composition.
Festival Special Trains for Seemanchal Region
Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO) Kapinjal Kishore Sharma announced that the decision to increase the frequency of these special trains was taken to provide passengers with additional travel options and reduce the pressure of crowds on regular trains. This is a particular benefit for those traveling from Mumbai to the Katihar region during the major festivals of Durga Puja, Diwali, and Chhath Puja.
Detailed Schedule of Additional Trips
Train No. 09190 (Katihar to Mumbai Central): This train will depart from Katihar on September 8 and 15, October 20 and 27, and November 3, 10, and 17, 2026. Totaling 7 additional trips.
Train No. 09189 (Mumbai Central to Katihar): The return journey from Mumbai Central will be operated on September 5, 12, and October 17, 24, 31, and 14, 2026. Totaling 7 additional special trips.
Other Special Train Extensions
Apart from the Mumbai-Katihar service, the NFR has also increased the frequency of the Kanpur Central – Guwahati Special train (04127/04128) by 14 additional trips in both directions to manage the festive rush.
