NFR Rolls Out AI-Driven Services in 5 Superfast Trains

The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has officially entered a new era of passenger convenience by launching advanced, technology-driven on-board services across five major long-distance superfast routes. This initiative marks NFR as the second zonal railway in India to implement such high-tech service standards.

The Upgraded Superfast Fleet

The rollout of these enhanced amenities took place between October 10 and October 14, 2026, targeting key long-distance connections. The transition began on October 10 with the Guwahati-Kolkata Garib Rath Express (12518/12517). This was followed by the Dibrugarh-Mumbai LTT Express (15946/15945) on October 11.

The final phase of the implementation occurred on October 14, extending the services to three more prominent trains:

  • New Jalpaiguri-Patna Vande Bharat Express (22233/22234)
  • New Jalpaiguri–Guwahati Vande Bharat Express (22227/22228)
  • Kamakhya-SMVT Bengaluru Express (12552/12551)

Smart Hygiene and Linen Management

According to Kapinjal Kishore Sharma, NFR's Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO), the primary goal of this project is to significantly elevate cleanliness, hygiene, and overall passenger comfort. To execute this, NFR has contracted SMC Integrated Facility Management Solutions Limited to provide technology-enabled housekeeping services.

The comprehensive service package includes:

  • Regular cleaning of AC windows and coaches.
  • Enhanced maintenance of washrooms.
  • Efficient waste management systems.
  • Timely distribution and collection of linen.

AI Monitoring and Rapid Complaint Resolution

What sets this initiative apart is the integration of advanced digital and AI-based monitoring tools. The system utilizes geo-tagged service verification and staff tracking, all feeding into a centralized monitoring system to ensure standards are met. Passengers can also actively participate in this quality control process through real-time feedback and star rating mechanisms, which allow NFR to conduct AI-based cleaning assessments.

To ensure operational accountability, NFR has implemented a strict two-hour resolution target for passenger complaints. Dedicated teams are deployed to provide technical assistance, monitor water availability, and address issues immediately. If a complaint remains unresolved within this two-hour window, it is automatically escalated to the appropriate railway authorities for swift action.
