NFR Upgrades 5 Superfast Trains with AI-Tech Services

The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) is revolutionizing the long-distance travel experience by rolling out high-tech, upgraded on-board services across five of its major superfast trains. This significant move makes NFR only the second zonal railway in India to implement such a sophisticated, technology-driven service model.

Enhanced Hygiene and Comfort Standards

In collaboration with SMC Integrated Facility Management Solutions Limited, NFR has introduced a comprehensive program to boost cleanliness and passenger comfort. The initiative, which commenced between October 10 and October 14, 2026, focuses on maintaining a pristine environment for travelers throughout their journey.

The upgraded service standards include:

  • Superior Cleaning: Regular cleaning of coaches and AC windows.
  • Sanitation Focus: Intensive washroom maintenance and hygiene management.
  • Linen Management: Structured distribution and collection of clean linen.
  • Waste Control: Efficient waste management systems to keep coaches tidy.

Which Trains Are Getting the Upgrade?

The upgraded services are being rolled out on several high-profile long-distance routes, ensuring a better journey for thousands of passengers. The five trains include:

  • Kamakhya-SMVT Bengaluru Express (12552/12551)
  • Guwahati-Kolkata Garib Rath Express (12518/12517)
  • Dibrugarh-Mumbai LTT Express (15946/15945)
  • New Jalpaiguri-Patna Vande Bharat Express (22233/22234)
  • New Jalpaiguri–Guwahati Vande Bharat Express (22227/22228)

AI-Powered Monitoring and Rapid Response

To ensure these high standards are consistently met, NFR is leveraging advanced digital tools. Instead of relying solely on manual checks, the railway is using AI-based cleaning assessments and geo-tagged service verification to track the quality of work in real-time.

The system also features:

  • Real-time Staff Tracking: Monitoring the efficiency and location of on-board teams.
  • Passenger Feedback: A star-rating mechanism that allows travelers to evaluate service quality directly.

Solving Problems in 2 Hours

NFR has also prioritized grievance redressal to ensure passenger satisfaction. Dedicated on-board teams are now tasked with monitoring water availability and providing technical assistance. Most importantly, the railway has committed to a two-hour window for resolving passenger complaints. Any issue that remains unresolved within this period is automatically escalated to higher railway authorities to ensure swift and effective action.
