NWR Boosts Festive Travel: Extra Coaches Added to Key Routes
The North Western Railway (NWR) is preparing for the upcoming festive rush by significantly expanding its passenger capacity. To ensure smoother journeys for travelers, the railway has announced the augmentation of 15 pairs of trains with a total of 38 additional coaches.
This move is part of a larger strategic effort by the NWR to manage the high volume of passengers expected during the holiday season. Amit Sudarshan, the Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO) of NWR, confirmed that these temporary augmentations are specifically designed to handle the anticipated rise in passenger traffic.
Ongoing Capacity Enhancements
The current addition follows a series of recent operational adjustments aimed at meeting seasonal demand. In August 2026, the NWR implemented a massive expansion, adding 148 coaches to 55 pairs of train services during the Raksha Bandhan period. Many of those temporary services have been extended through December 2026.
Furthermore, an August 2026 directive saw the addition of 132 coaches to 47 pairs of trains to accommodate the September travel surge. The current deployment of 38 extra coaches continues this trend of proactive capacity management.
Focus on Jodhpur-Based Routes
A significant portion of these capacity increases has been directed toward key routes operating out of Jodhpur. The railway has implemented specific coach additions to cater to different classes of travelers on these vital corridors:
- Jodhpur-Varanasi City-Jodhpur: This route received an additional 3rd AC coach throughout September 2026.
- Jodhpur-Dadar-Jodhpur: The service was bolstered by one 3rd AC coach and two Second Sleeper Class coaches.
- Jodhpur-Indore-Jodhpur: Capacity was increased with the addition of two Second Sleeper Class coaches and three General Class coaches.
- Jodhpur-Delhi-Jodhpur: For the period between September 9 and September 15, 2026, the railway provided one temporary Third AC coach and one Third AC Economy coach.
