NWR to Run 38 Special Train Pairs for Festive Rush

To tackle the massive surge in passenger traffic during the upcoming festive season, the North Western Railway (NWR) has rolled out a comprehensive operational plan. With major festivals like Durga Puja, Dussehra, Diwali, and Chhath Puja approaching, the railway is ramping up its services to ensure safe and convenient travel for millions of passengers.
Massive Deployment of Special Trains
The NWR will operate a total of 38 pairs of special train services, amounting to 824 trips across the network. This deployment is structured to provide maximum relief through various service types:
- New Special Trains: 13 pairs of new special trains will be introduced, contributing 264 trips.
- Extended Existing Services: 16 pairs of previously announced special trains will continue to operate, adding 406 trips.
- Bypass Special Trains: 9 pairs of bypass services have been extended, providing another 154 trips.
Capacity Boost on Regular Trains
In addition to the special services, the railway is augmenting capacity on its regular schedule. To alleviate the pressure of long waiting lists, 150 additional coaches will be attached to 48 pairs of regular train services.
High-Demand Routes to Receive Relief
As of October 13, 2026, officials confirmed that these proactive measures are necessary due to the significant passenger load observed on major routes. The adjustments are specifically designed to ease congestion on corridors such as:
- Prayagraj–Sikar
- Ajmer–Ranchi
- Jodhpur–Danapur
- Howrah–Khatipura (Jaipur)
- Kota–Danapur
The NWR emphasizes that these initiatives are aimed at ensuring a smoother and more efficient travel experience during the peak festive rush.
