Northeast Frontier Railway extends festival special trains for autumn rush

The Northeast Frontier Railway announced on September 4, 2026, the extension of services for two pairs of festival special trains to accommodate the anticipated surge in passenger traffic during the upcoming Durga Puja, Diwali, and Chhath Puja festivities. Chief Public Relations Officer Kapinjal Kishore Sharma confirmed the operational updates, which aim to ensure a smooth travel experience for commuters.

The railway administration has taken this step to help passengers secure confirmed tickets and avoid last-minute travel hassles during the heavy festive season rush. Commuters planning their journeys can now benefit from additional trips on important long-distance routes connecting major cities.

Mumbai Central Katihar Special Extensions

The Mumbai Central-Katihar-Mumbai Central Festival Special (Train numbers 09189/09190) has been extended for seven additional trips in each direction. Train 09189 is scheduled to depart Mumbai Central for Katihar on September 5 and 12, October 17, 24, and 31, and November 7 and 14, 2026. The return service, Train 09190, will depart Katihar for Mumbai Central on September 8 and 15, October 20 and 27, and November 3, 10, and 17, 2026. These trains will maintain their existing schedule, route, stoppages, and coach composition.

Kanpur Central Guwahati Special Extensions

Additionally, the Kanpur Central-Guwahati-Kanpur Central Festival Special (Train numbers 04127/04128) has been extended for 14 additional trips in both directions. These services will run from September 10, 2026, through December 10, 2026, adhering to the original timetable, designated stops, and coach configuration.
