Northern Railway Adds Extra Coaches to 25 Trains for Diwali Rush
Northern Railway adds extra coaches to 25 trains and plans 6,200+ special trips to ease Diwali and Chhath Puja rush for passengers.

Northern Railway has announced a major boost to its services to accommodate the massive surge in passenger traffic expected during the Diwali and Chhath Puja festivities. By adding extra coaches to 25 key trains, the railway aims to significantly reduce congestion and provide much-needed relief to commuters.
The initiative specifically targets routes heading towards Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and Jharkhand. This strategic move is projected to clear approximately 4,000 waiting-list tickets on a daily basis, making travel much more accessible for festive travelers.
A 30% Surge in Special Train Services
Beyond just adding coaches, Northern Railway is ramping up its special train operations. For the current festive season, the railway has planned over 6,200 special train trips. This marks a substantial 30% increase compared to the 4,666 trips operated during the same period last year.
While 3,600 trips have already been formally announced, the total number of services is expected to exceed the 6,200 mark. These special services are designed to provide essential connectivity between Delhi, the National Capital Region (NCR), and major destinations across Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and West Bengal.
Enhanced Station Security and Passenger Assistance
To manage the heavy footfall at stations, authorities have implemented several operational adjustments to ensure smooth travel throughout November:
- Bolstered security arrangements across major stations.
- Opening of additional ticket counters to reduce queues.
- Deployment of supplementary staff to assist passengers with their journeys.
