Northern Railway announces reserved special trains to manage festive rush
Northern Railway has announced the operation of three pairs of reserved special trains to manage the rising travel demand during the upcoming festive season. Himanshu Shekhar Upadhyay, Chief Public Relations Officer for Northern Railway, confirmed that the operational duration of several key special trains has been extended to ensure maximum passenger convenience while maintaining existing schedules, routes, and stoppages.
- New Delhi-Danapur Special (04090/04089) will operate eight total trips starting September 4, 2026.
- Subedarganj-Yesvantpur Weekly Special (04135/04136) is extended from September 11 to December 7, 2026.
- New Delhi-Kanpur Central Special (02456/02455) will run between September 7 and November 30, 2026.
- Special trains for Beas pilgrims and three pairs of unreserved train services begin in September 2026.
Detailed Schedule of Festive Special Trains
Key among the announcements is the New Delhi-Danapur Special (04090/04089). Train 04090 is scheduled to depart New Delhi at 11:30 PM on September 4, 11, 18, and 25, 2026, arriving in Danapur at 3:00 PM the following day. Conversely, train 04089 will depart Danapur at 4:40 PM on September 5, 12, 19, and 26, 2026, reaching New Delhi at 9:45 AM the next day. This service will stop at Ghaziabad, Aligarh, Tundla, Etawah, Kanpur Central, Prayagraj Junction, Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya Junction, Buxar, and Ara.
Additionally, North Central Railway has extended operations for other vital services. A weekly special train (04135/04136) will run between Subedarganj (Prayagraj) and Yesvantpur (Bengaluru) from September 11 to December 7, 2026. Furthermore, two pairs of reserved special superfast express trains, the New Delhi-Kanpur Central Special (02456/02455), will operate from September 7 to November 30, 2026, on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays to accommodate high passenger volume between Delhi and Kanpur.
Additional Services and Unreserved Trains
In addition to long-distance reserved routes, Northern Railway is introducing special trains for Beas pilgrims running between Hazrat Nizamuddin–Beas and Saharanpur–Beas in September 2026. Separately, three pairs of new unreserved train services featuring general coaches are scheduled to commence operations on September 6, 2026, providing affordable travel options for daily commuters and unreserved passengers during the busy festive period.
