Northern Railway launches New Delhi Supaul festival special train
Northern Railway has announced the operation of a reserved festival special train service between New Delhi and Supaul Junction to manage increased passenger demand during the upcoming festive season, including Diwali on November 8, 2026. This new service aims to provide relief to travellers looking for confirmed berths during the peak holiday rush.
Train Number 04072 from New Delhi to Supaul Junction is scheduled to run from October 1 to November 28, 2026.
The return journey, designated as train number 04071, will operate from Supaul Junction to New Delhi between October 3 and November 30, 2026.
Bookings for these special services officially commenced on September 6, 2026.
The train covers a total distance of 1,246 kilometres, departing New Delhi at 9:35 PM and arriving at Supaul Junction at 6:35 AM the following day.
Route and Stoppages
To serve passengers across various regions, the train has been provided with extensive halts along its route. Major stoppages include Ghaziabad, Aligarh Junction, Tundla Junction, Etawah Junction, Govindpuri, Prayagraj Junction, Gyanpur Road, Varanasi Junction, Saharsa, Khagaria, Begusarai, Barauni, Hajipur, Chhapra, Surairmanpur, Ballia, Ghazipur City, and Aunrihar Junction. These stops ensure seamless connectivity for passengers travelling across Uttar Pradesh and Bihar.
Coach Composition and Additional Arrangements
Himanshu Shekhar Upadhyay, Chief Public Relations Officer of Northern Railway, confirmed that the special trains will be equipped with AC, Sleeper, and General coaches to comfortably accommodate various traveller segments and budgets. Furthermore, Senior Commercial Manager Yashjit Singh noted that the railway administration remains open to the possibility of adding extra coaches should passenger demand continue to rise in the coming weeks.
This announcement follows a series of special services operated by Indian Railways throughout 2026. The New Delhi-Supaul special (04072) previously operated daily from August 6 to September 30, 2026, while the return service (04071) ran from August 8 to October 2, 2026. Prior to that, a summer special service began on April 17, 2026, although it experienced a brief suspension of operations between May 21 and May 25, 2026. Passengers are advised to check current seat availability and book their tickets in advance through the IRCTC portal or railway reservation counters.
