Northern Railway has announced the launch of numerous festival special trains connecting Delhi to Uttar Pradesh and Bihar to accommodate the surge in passenger traffic during the upcoming Dussehra, Diwali, and Chhath Puja festivals. As of September 6, 2026, bookings for these services are open, and passengers are encouraged to secure their reservations promptly based on the advance reservation period. These special trains offer various travel classes, including AC 3-Tier, AC 3-Tier Economy, Sleeper, and General coaches, and railway officials have urged travellers to book early to manage the heavy holiday rush and ensure a seamless travel experience.

Festival Special Train Schedule and Routes

The service schedule includes the New Delhi-Danapur Special Express (04090/04089), operating eight trips between September 4 and September 25, 2026. Train 04090 departs Delhi every Friday at 11:30 PM, arriving in Danapur at 3:00 PM the following day, with stops at Ghaziabad, Tundla, and Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Junction. The return service, 04089, departs Danapur every Saturday at 4:40 PM. Additionally, the Ayodhya Cantt-Anand Vihar Terminal Special Express (04213/04214) will conduct 36 trips between October 1 and November 30, with an additional two trips starting September 3, serving key stations including Lucknow, Bareilly, and Moradabad. Similarly, the Varanasi-Anand Vihar Terminal Special (04217/04218) will run two trips starting September 3, connecting through Raebareli, Bareilly, and Hapur.

Extended Operations and More Routes

A major service, the Varanasi Junction-Delhi Junction Festival Special (04209/04210), will operate 50 trips. Train 04209 will run on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from October 2 to November 27, while the return 04210 will operate on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays from October 3 to November 28. Other key services include the Chandigarh-Patna Junction Festival Special (04512/04511), which will complete nine trips each from October 1 to November 27. The Gaya-Anand Vihar Terminal Weekly Special (02397/02398) has been extended for 13 trips each between September and November 2026, running Sundays from Gaya and Mondays from Anand Vihar. Furthermore, the Dhanbad-Shakoorbasti Bi-Weekly Special (03639/03640) will see an increase of 26 trips each, operating through November and December 1, alongside a currently operational Muzaffarpur-Anand Vihar Terminal Special.
