Northern Railway cancels and diverts trains for the BRICS summit

Passengers travelling through the national capital region need to check their train schedules carefully as Northern Railway has announced major disruptions to train operations from September 11 to September 13, 2026. This extensive overhaul of train services includes cancellations, diversions, short terminations, short originations, and rescheduling of various express and local trains. According to Himanshu Shekhar Upadhyay, Chief Public Relations Officer of Northern Railway, these changes are necessitated by operational requirements and the upcoming BRICS summit scheduled to take place in Delhi alongside ongoing infrastructure maintenance work at Ghaziabad railway station. Approximately 120 trains are expected to be impacted by these urgent adjustments. Prominent services facing disruptions include the New Delhi-Ranchi Rajdhani Express, New Delhi-Dibrugarh Rajdhani Express, New Delhi-Sealdah Rajdhani Express, New Delhi-Howrah Rajdhani Express, New Delhi-Bhubaneswar Rajdhani Express, Mumbai Tejas Rajdhani, New Delhi-Rajendra Nagar Terminal Tejas Rajdhani Express, and the New Delhi-Howrah Poorva Express. Numerous EMU and MEMU services will also face disruptions, specifically affecting the 64015 Palwal-Shakurbasti EMU, 64429 Ghaziabad-New Delhi EMU, 64433 Ghaziabad-New Delhi EMU, and the 64492 New Delhi-Palwal Ladies EMU.

In addition to the security and protocol arrangements for the BRICS summit, repairs on tracks and sleepers at platform number 4 of the Ghaziabad railway station are significantly contributing to these service adjustments. These crucial maintenance activities will directly impact local and MEMU trains operating on the Delhi-Ghaziabad, Delhi-Moradabad, and Delhi-Meerut routes. Railway engineering teams are working round the clock to complete the track repairs safely within the stipulated timeframe to prevent prolonged inconvenience to daily commuters.
