North Western Railway extends small platforms to ensure passenger safety

The North Western Railway is upgrading 564 smaller platforms to 576 meters to improve passenger safety. Millions of travellers in Rajasthan and Haryana will benefit from this major infrastructure upgrade. Here are the key highlights of the project: North Western Railway is standardizing 564 smaller platforms to a length of 576 meters to accommodate long-distance mail and express trains consisting of 22 to 24 coaches. Authorities have officially sanctioned expansion works for 258 platforms in the initial phase. The initiative aims to improve train fluidity and punctuality while preventing passengers from alighting directly onto tracks.

Enhancing Passenger Safety and Convenience

For years, passengers traveling in the last coaches of long-distance trains have faced safety hazards when alighting at smaller stations where platform lengths were insufficient. By extending these platforms to 576 meters, the North Western Railway is directly addressing this critical safety concern across its network. According to Amit Sudarshan, Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO) for the North Western Railway, these upgraded facilities will facilitate smoother and more time-bound train services. Sudarshan emphasized that the project will ultimately provide modernized rail travel infrastructure for millions of commuters.

Division Wise Breakdown of Upgrades

The ambitious infrastructure project involves significant divisional targets to ensure systematic execution. In the Jodhpur Division, a total of 192 small platforms have been identified for extension, with expansion work already officially approved for 51 platforms. Meanwhile, in the Jaipur Division, 137 platforms are slated for comprehensive upgrades, and work has been sanctioned for 47 of them. Railway authorities are monitoring the progress closely to ensure timely completion of these vital developmental works, which promise a much safer and more convenient journey for everyday train passengers.
