North Western Railway plans extra coaches for Mahendragarh trains in August

The North Western Railway (NWR) has announced plans to bolster passenger capacity by attaching additional coaches to several trains passing through the Mahendragarh district in Haryana throughout August. This move is strategically timed to manage the significant surge in passenger traffic expected during the holy month of Sawan and the ongoing Kanwar Yatra. The initiative is set to benefit several key stations, including Narnaul, Mahendragarh, Ateli, Nizampur, Bachhod, and Amarpur Jodhrasi. However, as of July 28, 2026, official notifications regarding the specific train numbers and the exact implementation schedule for these augmentations remain pending.

Reflecting on Previous Summer Capacity Boosts

This potential expansion follows a successful series of temporary measures implemented by the NWR earlier this year to handle record-breaking summer holiday crowds. On April 23, 2026, the railway had announced the addition of 132 temporary coaches across 52 pairs of trains, a measure that provided significant relief to passengers until early June.

During that period, several trains serving the Mahendragarh region received temporary capacity upgrades. For instance, between May 1 and May 31, 2026, five Second Ordinary Class coaches were added to trains such as 19617/19618 (Madar–Rewari–Madar) and the Rewari–Phulera services (19620/19619 and 19622/19621). Additionally, three Ordinary coaches were attached to Train No. 14705/14706 (Bhiwani–Dehar ka Balaji–Bhiwani) from May 2 to June 1, 2026.

Specific Coach Additions for Key Routes

Commuters on high-demand routes also saw temporary relief during the summer rush. Train No. 22471/22472 (Lalgarh–Delhi Sarai) was augmented with one Third AC and one Sleeper coach from May 1 to June 2, 2026. Similarly, the Chetak Express (20473/20474), which serves Ateli and Narnaul, received an extra Third AC and Sleeper coach from May 1 to June 1, 2026. Furthermore, the Jan Shatabdi (12065/12066) stopping at Narnaul was bolstered with an additional AC Chair Car coach from May 1 to May 30, 2026.

While these previous augmentations have now concluded, passengers are advised to keep a close watch on the official NWR announcements for the upcoming August schedule to confirm which trains will receive additional capacity to accommodate the festive season rush.
