Odisha Landslide: Major Train Cancellations in Rayagada

Severe landslides triggered by heavy rainfall in the Bastar and Odisha regions have caused significant disruptions to rail operations. A major landslide occurring between the Maliguda (MVG) and Chhatariput (CTS) stations in the Rayagada railway division has led to extensive train cancellations and scheduling changes.

The East Coast Railway (ECoR) and South Coast Railway (SCR) have reported that these service disruptions, which have already impacted connectivity for 21 days, are now expected to continue until October 22, 2026.

Key Train Cancellations

Due to the unstable track conditions, several prominent train services have been cancelled for the upcoming period:

  • Visakhapatnam-Kirandul Express (18515) and Kirandul-Visakhapatnam Express (18516): Cancelled until October 20.
  • Rourkela-Jagdalpur Express (18107): Cancelled until October 20.
  • Jagdalpur-Rourkela Express (18108): Cancelled from October 14 to October 21.

Revised Routes and Short-Terminations

To manage the disrupted connectivity, several long-distance trains will undergo short-termination or revised origin points, primarily centered around Koraput:

  • Visakhapatnam-Kirandul Passenger (58501/58502): These services will be short-terminated at Koraput until October 20.
  • Howrah-Jagdalpur Express (18005): This train will terminate at Koraput until October 20.
  • Jagdalpur-Howrah Express (18006): This service will depart from Koraput between October 15 and October 22.
  • Bhubaneswar-Jagdalpur Hirakhand Express (18447): Will terminate at Koraput until October 20.
  • Jagdalpur-Bhubaneswar Hirakhand Express (18448): Will originate from Koraput between October 14 and October 21.

Impact of Traffic Blocks and Safety Measures

In addition to the landslide impact, an eight-hour traffic block was scheduled on October 13, 2026, in the DPC yard of the Rayagada division. This block was required for the launch of a Limited Height Subway (LHS). During this period, the Visakhapatnam-Kirandul Passenger trains (58501 and 58502) were required to short-terminate and originate at Araku (ARK) instead of Koraput.

Railway authorities have stated that prioritizing track repair and passenger safety is their primary concern. Commuters are urged to verify the current status of their trains before beginning their journey. You can check for real-time updates through the following methods:
