Indian Railways One Station One Product scheme empowers thousands of local artisans nationwide

The Indian Railways One Station One Product initiative successfully transforms railway stations into vibrant local marketplaces providing a significant boost to regional artisans and small scale producers. Passengers traveling across the country can now easily purchase authentic indigenous goods right at railway platforms while supporting grassroots entrepreneurship.

The One Station One Product scheme operates over 2300 outlets across more than 2000 railway stations nationwide.
Cumulative sales have reached approximately 162.39 crore rupees under this program.
The initiative has directly benefited more than 1.54 lakh individuals including weavers craftspeople and small scale producers.
West Bengal leads implementation with 378 units followed by Maharashtra with 205 Tamil Nadu with 199 and Uttar Pradesh with 196.

Origins and Design of the Scheme

Launched on March 25 2022 following its announcement in the Union Budget 2022-23 the scheme was thoughtfully designed by the National Institute of Design in Ahmedabad to highlight indigenous craftsmanship and regional heritage. To foster widespread participation and ensure fair opportunities for all stalls are allotted on a rotational basis with nominal fees ranging from 500 rupees to 1000 rupees for a 15-day period. This makes it highly accessible for rural vendors who want to showcase their products to a massive daily commuter base.

Promoting Vocal for Local

The Ministry of Railways emphasizes that the initiative strongly aligns with the Vocal for Local and Make in India campaigns. Railway stations now proudly promote iconic regional specialties such as Madhubani paintings Bhagalpuri silk Assamese Gamosa and Channapatna toys. Travelers looking for authentic cultural artifacts find these railway kiosks extremely convenient. Furthermore to ensure hassle-free shopping the outlets fully support modern digital payment methods including UPI BHIM and POS machines to facilitate seamless transactions. By integrating commerce with culture the Ministry of Railways continues to expand this impressive network to guarantee sustainable livelihoods for local communities across the country.
