PM Modi Unveils Modernized Palani Amrit Station in TN

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has officially inaugurated the redeveloped Palani Amrit Station in Tamil Nadu, marking a significant milestone in the modernization of Indian railway infrastructure. The project, executed under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, is specifically designed to provide enhanced facilities for the massive influx of passengers, particularly pilgrims visiting the holy Palani Murugan Temple.

A ₹20.15 Crore Infrastructure Upgrade

The comprehensive redevelopment of the Palani station involved an investment of ₹20.15 crore. This project aims to transform the station into a modern transit hub that can handle high volumes of traffic while providing a seamless experience for both commuters and tourists.

Key upgrades at the station include:

  • A brand-new entrance building and a modernized facade.
  • Upgraded waiting halls with a capacity to accommodate 72 passengers.
  • Improved drinking water facilities and overhauled toilet blocks.
  • Dedicated parking zones and enhanced platform fencing for improved safety.
  • Digital passenger information systems and train indication boards for real-time updates.

Enhanced Accessibility for All Passengers

Prioritizing inclusivity, the redevelopment has introduced several features to assist elderly passengers and those with disabilities. A new six-meter-wide Foot Over Bridge (FOB) now connects all platforms, supplemented by two additional lifts to ensure easy movement.

To support differently-abled travelers, the station is now equipped with:

  • Tactile pathways for easier navigation.
  • Ramps equipped with handrails.
  • Specially designed accessible toilets.

Broader Development Across Tamil Nadu

The inauguration of Palani station is part of a much larger infrastructure rollout in the region. This development is part of a broader initiative involving four other stations in Tamil Nadu—Vellore Cantonment, Ambasamudram, Paramakkudi, and Namakkal. Collectively, these various regional infrastructure projects represent a total investment of over ₹750 crore.

Om Prakash Meena, the Divisional Railway Manager for the Madurai Division, noted that these specific improvements were carefully designed to meet the high volume of traffic at the station. SN Narain, Chief Public Relations Officer of Southern Railway, also confirmed the comprehensive and modern nature of these station upgrades.
