Serious structural defects have emerged on the newly constructed railway overbridge at Panki Power House in Kanpur just two months after its completion by the Setu Nigam. Daily commuters are facing major safety hazards as expansion joints have separated and left reinforcing bars dangerously exposed.

Commuter Safety at Risk
The damage on the bridge has resulted in four to five significant potholes, creating extremely hazardous conditions for everyday commuters. Officials have issued warnings that the exposed reinforcing bars (rebar) pose a severe risk of tire bursts and skidding, particularly threatening two-wheeler riders who navigate the route daily.
This critical infrastructure serves thousands of daily commuters travelling from heavily populated residential areas. The affected neighbourhoods include Panki C Block, Power House New Colony, Panki Katra, Gangaganj, B Block, Ratanpur Colony, Ratanpur village, Gambhirpur, Sujanpur, and Kapali Baheda.
Official Response and Repair Plans
Following widespread concern over the rapid deterioration of the newly built structure, Vijay Sen, Chief Project Manager of the Setu Nigam, has acknowledged the reports regarding the open joints and surface degradation. Authorities have confirmed that a technical team is scheduled to inspect the bridge on Monday, and necessary repair work will be initiated immediately after the assessment to address all structural concerns and restore safe passage for the public.
