Mission Raftaar: Patna to Delhi journey in 7 hours as trains will run at 160 kmph on Delhi-Howrah route
Indian Railways is set to transform travel between Patna and Delhi by reducing the journey time to approximately 7 hours. The Ministry of Railways has prioritized the Delhi-Howrah route under Mission Raftaar to enable trains to run at a maximum speed of 160 kmph. This project involves major technical upgrades and infrastructure changes across multiple railway zones including East Central Railway.

Status of Kavach and Speed Trials
The East Central Railway is currently working on the installation of the Kavach safety system on the 294 km DDU-Pradhankhanta section. Speed trials between 160 and 180 kmph have already been completed successfully on several parts of the Delhi-Howrah route. General Manager Chhatrasal Singh stated that the safety system will be fully active within a year, which is a mandatory requirement for high-speed operations.
Infrastructure Projects and Timelines
Multiple infrastructure projects are being fast-tracked to support these high speeds. A new two-lane rail bridge over the Ganga at Mokama is expected to be operational by June, which will streamline movement between Danapur and Sonepur divisions. Additionally, safety walls are being constructed along the tracks to ensure an obstruction-free path for fast-moving trains.
