Pilibhit Station: New Escalators Now Open on Platforms 1 & 4
Passengers at Pilibhit Railway Station can finally say goodbye to the struggle of climbing steep stairs. In a major boost to station infrastructure, the long-awaited escalator services have officially been rolled out on Platforms 1 and 4.
A Major Boost for Passenger Convenience
The commencement of these services marks a significant milestone in the station's modernization journey. For travelers who previously had to navigate the foot-overbridge via stairs, the new escalators offer a much-needed smoother transition between levels. The service became fully operational on October 19, 2026.
This upgrade is specifically designed to provide relief to various groups of travelers, including:
- Elderly passengers who find climbing stairs physically taxing.
- Women traveling with heavy luggage or small children.
- Passengers with mobility challenges seeking a faster way to reach their coaches.
Platform 2 to Follow Before Diwali
While Platforms 1 and 4 are now active, the upgrade is not yet complete. Mechanical work is currently ongoing for the escalator on Platform 2. Railway officials have expressed optimism that this third unit will be commissioned and ready for use before the upcoming Diwali festival, further enhancing the station's accessibility.
The Road to Operational Status
The journey to getting these escalators running involved several stages of preparation. Although the machinery had been installed, it remained dormant for a period. It was only after the Directorate of Electrical Safety issued the formal clearance on September 14, 2026, that the station could proceed with the launch.
This development follows the earlier introduction of lift services at the station on June 26, 2026, as part of a broader effort to modernize the facility and improve the passenger experience.
A Note of Caution for Travelers
While the new amenities have been met with widespread public acclaim, authorities have highlighted a small operational hurdle. There have been instances of minor service disruptions caused when children press the emergency stop buttons. Passengers are advised to monitor young children near the control panels to ensure the escalators continue to run smoothly for everyone.
