Pitru Paksha Mela 2026: Special Trains & Tight Security for Bihar Pilgrims!
Indian Railways has unveiled a massive operational roadmap to manage the heavy influx of passengers during the upcoming Pitru Paksha Mela. Scheduled to take place from September 25 to October 10, 2026, the plan ensures that devotees traveling to Bihar for the festival face minimal disruptions through a combination of special train services, temporary halts, and high-level security protocols.
Massive Special Train Network Unveiled
To tackle the seasonal surge, multiple railway zones are deploying special services to connect major cities directly to the pilgrimage hubs.
- Rani Kamlapati-Gaya-Rani Kamlapati Special (01661/01662): West Central Railway is launching this key service to facilitate travel. The train will depart from Rani Kamlapati on September 27, October 2, and October 7. The return journey from Gaya is scheduled for September 30, October 5, and October 10. This service will serve major stations including Satna, Prayagraj Chheoki, and Pt. Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Junction.
- Subedarganj-Bhagat Ki Kothi Special: North Western Railway will operate this special service every Monday and Thursday from October 1 through November 30.
- Jammu Division Specials: Northern Railway has introduced three pairs of special trains to link major locations, including New Delhi and Varanasi, to the festival zones.
Detailed Coach Composition and New Halts
The Rani Kamlapati-Gaya special has been specifically configured to cater to a wide range of passengers. The train composition includes:
- 2 AC Second Class coaches
- 4 AC Third Class coaches
- 12 Sleeper class coaches
- 4 General class coaches
Furthermore, East Central Railway (ECR) has enhanced accessibility by approving temporary train halts. Devotees will now have access to eight pairs of trains at Punpun Ghat and four pairs at Anugrah Narayan Snan Ghat.
Fortified Security and Station Readiness
With Gaya Junction serving as the primary focal point, the railway administration has fast-tracked preparations. The station's redevelopment is currently 80% complete, with seven platforms already fully operational to handle the crowds.

- Passenger Assistance: Dedicated help desks will be available to assist travelers with queries and navigation.
- Sanitation Mandates: Strict directives have been issued to ensure station cleanliness and high operational efficiency throughout the mela period.
