Prime Minister Modi launches Tanda Road Vadodara rail service and full Dedicated Freight Corridor

Prime Minister Narendra Modi officially flagged off a new passenger train service between Tanda Road in the Dhar district of Madhya Pradesh and Vadodara’s Pratapnagar station on September 8, 2026. This important development aims to boost regional mobility and economic growth for daily commuters and long-distance travellers alike. Prime Minister Narendra Modi flagged off the new MEMU service approved by Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw to enhance connectivity for remote tribal regions. The service specifically links Alirajpur with the national rail network as part of the Chhota Udepur-Dhar project. Prime Minister Modi also announced the full operational status of India's 2843-kilometer Dedicated Freight Corridor network. Four freight trains were launched from New Sanand North, New Makarpura, New Umbergaon, and New JNPT. Three sections of the Western Dedicated Freight Corridor were dedicated to the nation spanning 326 route kilometers completed at a cost exceeding 20700 crore rupees.

Transforming Indian Logistics and Freight Operations

The newly inaugurated infrastructure projects are designed to revolutionize how goods move across the country. The Dedicated Freight Corridor network is a transformative step for India's logistics expected to reduce travel times, lower fuel costs, and improve market access for farmers by freeing up capacity on the conventional railway network. By diverting heavy freight traffic away from passenger tracks, Indian Railways can ensure better punctuality for regular mail, express, and MEMU services while speeding up cargo movement.

Major Rail Investments in Vadodara

The inauguration ceremony was part of a broader development push in Vadodara. Prime Minister Modi unveiled projects valued at over 35000 crore rupees including foundation stones for three additional railway projects covering 329 kilometers with an investment exceeding 9700 crore rupees. These continuous upgrades highlight the government's commitment to modernizing Indian Railways, expanding network capacity, and providing world-class travel and transport infrastructure for all citizens.
