PM Modi will launch railway and development projects worth over Rs 35200 crore in Gujarat
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to visit Vadodara and Navsari in Gujarat on September 8, 2026, where he will inaugurate and lay the foundation stone for various development projects valued at over ₹35,200 crore. This massive financial commitment includes more than ₹32,606 crore in central government initiatives and over ₹2,597 crore in state government projects aimed at transforming regional infrastructure.

Boost to Passenger and Freight Railways

The Prime Minister will lay the foundation stone for three crucial railway lines spanning 329 kilometers at a cost exceeding ₹9,700 crore. Among the major highlights is the commencement of work on the third and fourth railway lines between Vadodara and Ratlam, which is designed to ease congestion and greatly enhance connectivity between Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh. Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw confirmed that this four-lining initiative is a pivotal part of the expansive railway modernization program.
Other critical passenger railway developments featured in the itinerary include the gauge conversion of the Miyagam Karjan-Choranda-Malsar line and the doubling of the Vishwamitri-Dabhoi section. These upgrades will ensure smoother train operations and better last-mile connectivity for local commuters.
Western Dedicated Freight Corridor Integration
In a massive leap forward for logistics, the Prime Minister will dedicate to the nation three vital sections of the Western Dedicated Freight Corridor covering 326 kilometers, developed at a cost of over ₹20,700 crore. These newly completed sections include Sanand (North)-Makarpura, New Umargaon-New Safale, and New Safale-JNPT.
These freight corridors are expected to provide the Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority with direct, seamless freight connectivity. This integration will significantly reduce logistics costs, speed up cargo movement, and ease heavy pressure on the congested Mumbai rail network.
Expanding Road and Highway Connectivity
Beyond railways, the infrastructure push extends to roadways with the laying of the foundation for three national highway projects worth ₹1,780 crore. This includes the essential six-laning of the Kamrej-Chalthan section of NH-48, which will ensure faster and safer road travel for millions of commuters and commercial transport operators in the region.
