Prime Minister Narendra Modi will launch the first MEMU train for Kukshi tribal region on September 8

The tribal region surrounding Kukshi is set to receive a significant boost in rail connectivity with the launch of the first passenger train service on the Tanda Road-Dekakund rail section, scheduled for September 8, 2026. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the new service by virtually flagging off a 12-coach MEMU train. This landmark development marks a major milestone for the Dhar-Chhota Udepur rail project under the Western Railway zone.

Central Minister of State and Dhar Member of Parliament Savitri Thakur is scheduled to attend the official inaugural event organized by the railways at Tanda Road station. Western Railway officials have actively coordinated with local representatives, including the Sarpanchs of Tanda and Ghor panchayats, to ensure smooth public participation during the ceremony.

Preparations and Trial Runs

Preparations for the grand launch are currently in their final stages. The 12-coach MEMU rake successfully reached Tanda Road station from Vadodara on September 1, 2026. This deployment follows the successful completion of the Commissioner of Railway Safety inspection and high-speed trials on the Dekakund-Tanda Road section in August 2026, which featured a successful test run at speeds reaching 120 km/h. Following these rigorous checks, the Railway Board has officially granted final approval for the commencement of regular passenger services on this crucial route.
