Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to visit Vadodara in Gujarat on September 8 2026 to inaugurate and lay the foundation stone for development projects worth over 35000 crore rupees. A major highlight of this visit is the formal foundation stone laying ceremony for the construction of third and fourth railway lines between Vadodara and Ratlam. This massive infrastructure project spans approximately 259 kilometers and will be executed by Western Railway to significantly enhance connectivity between Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh. Project Cost and Timeline
Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw stated on September 7 2026 that these new lines are designed to strengthen the railway network and improve efficiency for both passenger and freight movement. The project was previously approved by the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs on October 7 2025 at an estimated cost of approximately 8885 crore rupees. It is expected to be completed within three years of the approval date aligning with the broader goal of finishing CCEA-approved projects by 2030-31.
Infrastructure and Congestion Relief
The comprehensive infrastructure expansion includes the construction of five viaducts 57 major bridges 216 minor bridges and four tunnels. By adding these lines Indian Railways intends to reduce congestion on the high-density Delhi-Mumbai corridor allowing for safer faster and more punctual operations.
Environmental and Economic Impact
Environmental projections suggest the project will save approximately 38 crore kilograms of carbon dioxide emissions annually equivalent to planting 1.5 crore trees and conserve 7.5 crore liters of diesel per year. Additionally the project is anticipated to reduce national logistics costs by 856 crore rupees annually.
Additional Regional Rail Projects
In conjunction with this development the Prime Minister will dedicate three sections of the Western Dedicated Freight Corridor to the nation to further bolster logistics. Furthermore the event will highlight the 33-kilometer Vishwamitri-Dabhoi doubling project costing 394 crore rupees which is essential for improving rail access to the Statue of Unity.
