Passengers travelling through Prayagraj Rambagh Railway Station continue to face severe difficulties as all three elevators at the station remain out of service due to persistent waterlogging. The ongoing breakdown has created major hurdles for elderly, sick, disabled, and female travellers who are currently forced to rely solely on staircases to navigate the platforms. Although railway personnel had previously given indications that lift operations might resume by Monday, technical complications arising from the accumulated water have unfortunately persisted. As of Monday, September 7, 2026, all three elevators at Prayagraj Rambagh Railway Station remain non-operational.
These current operational hurdles at the station directly follow severe waterlogging incidents that wreaked havoc during August 2026. Heavy monsoon downpours previously forced transport authorities to temporarily shift crucial train operations away from Rambagh towards Jhunsi station.
North Eastern Railway Chief Public Relations Officer Sumit Kumar explained that water continued to infiltrate the low-lying station area despite extensive drainage efforts. During the peak of the August crisis, platforms 1, 2, and 3 were severely affected, which forced railway officials to relocate scheduled trains to platform 5 or redirect them entirely to Jhunsi station for passenger safety.
The gravity of the situation prompted swift legal action to resolve the citywide civic crisis.
The Prayagraj High Court intervened strongly in August by summoning both the District Magistrate and the Municipal Commissioner to urgently address the recurring waterlogging problems plaguing the area. While authorities work on long-term municipal and railway drainage solutions, passengers are strongly advised to plan their station transit extra carefully and seek assistance from on-duty railway staff if travelling with heavy luggage or mobility challenges.
