Indian Railways launches Puja special train between Anand Vihar and Muzaffarpur

Indian Railways has introduced a weekly Puja Special train operating between Anand Vihar Terminal in Delhi and Muzaffarpur Junction in Bihar to manage the massive passenger rush during the upcoming festive season. This special service is designed to ease travel congestion for passengers heading home for Dussehra, Diwali, and Chhath festivals.

The train service from Anand Vihar to Muzaffarpur will operate on Tuesdays and Fridays from October 13 to November 24, while the return service from Muzaffarpur to Anand Vihar will run on Wednesdays and Saturdays from October 14 to November 25, completing a total of 13 trips.

Train Composition and Capacity

The special train will run with a total composition of 20 coaches, which includes one AC Second Class coach, two AC Third Class coaches, nine Sleeper Class coaches, six General Second Class coaches, and two SLR coaches. According to Sumit Kumar, Chief Public Relations Officer of North Eastern Railway, comprehensive arrangements are being made to handle the heavy festive footfall smoothly through multiple special train operations across critical routes.

Broader Festive Season Plans and Booking Details

This announcement is part of a larger nationwide initiative by Indian Railways to operate over 100 special train services between September and December 2026, connecting major metropolitan areas to high-demand destinations in Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, Assam, Tamil Nadu, and Andhra Pradesh.

Seat reservations for these festival special trains are now open, allowing passengers to book their tickets in advance with up to a 60-day window through the official IRCTC website and mobile application. Travellers are advised to book early to secure confirmed berths during the peak holiday season.
