Punjab to Bihar: New Festive Special Trains Announced

To tackle the massive passenger surge during the upcoming festive season, Northern Railway has announced Punjab Bihar special trains to ensure smoother travel for commuters heading home for Diwali and Chhath Puja.

New Express Services for Punjab and Bihar

The railway administration has officially approved two new reserved express train services designed to connect the two states effectively. These services are scheduled to commence operations on October 19, 2026.

  • Amritsar-Chhapra Express (04638/04637): A dedicated service connecting Amritsar directly to Chhapra.
  • Chheharta-Muzaffarpur Express (04640/04639): A new route linking Chheharta to Muzaffarpur.

Both of these services will operate on a weekly basis, running every Monday for a total duration of seven weeks. Passengers traveling on these routes can expect the trains to pass through key stations including Saharanpur, Bareilly, and Gorakhpur before reaching their final destinations in Bihar.

A Massive Festive Travel Plan

The introduction of these specific routes is part of a much larger initiative by Indian Railways. To manage the heavy demand during October and November 2026, more than 100 special train services have been announced across the national network.

These special services aim to connect high-traffic corridors involving several states, including:

  • Uttar Pradesh
  • Bihar
  • Assam
  • West Bengal
  • Punjab
  • Uttarakhand
  • Maharashtra

By deploying these extra services, Northern Railway aims to reduce congestion and provide reliable transport options for millions of passengers traveling during the peak festival period.
