Indian Railways Launches Door-to-Door Parcel App in Bilaspur
Indian Railways introduces the Rail Parcel App in Bilaspur, enabling door-to-door pickup and delivery for easier logistics.

In a major move to digitize logistics, Indian Railways has launched the 'Rail Parcel App - From Home to Home'. Currently operational in Bilaspur, this new digital service is designed to simplify the parcel booking process, allowing users to manage everything from doorstep pickup to final delivery directly through their mobile devices.
A Digital Solution for Small Businesses and Farmers
The new app aims to provide an affordable and efficient transport solution for small-scale traders, farmers, and e-commerce sellers. By integrating logistics partners into the railway ecosystem, the service removes the need for customers to manually transport goods to the station.
To use the service, customers must register on the app using their mobile number and provide specific details regarding the parcel, including the intended origin and destination stations. Once the booking is confirmed, logistics providers handle the collection from the user's location and ensure the goods reach the railway station.
Strict Guidelines for Secure Shipping
To maintain safety and efficiency, Indian Railways has established clear protocols for all users:
- Packing Standards: All items must be securely packed in appropriate containers such as boxes, trunks, baskets, or gunny bags.
- Mandatory Declaration: Users must accurately declare the nature, contents, and total value of the goods being shipped.
- Timely Handover: Logistics partners are required to hand over the parcels to railway staff at least one hour before the train's scheduled departure.
Booking Windows and Refund Policies
The app offers flexibility in scheduling, with booking windows opening 15 days up to one day before a train's departure, depending on available space. For added security, the platform provides an insurance option, allowing users to declare parcel values in line with existing railway regulations.
Regarding cancellations, the policy is split between the railway and the logistics provider:
- Railway Fares: These are refundable after the deduction of a clerical charge.
- Logistics Fees: Pickup and logistics fees are subject to the specific refund policy of the individual service provider.
Transparency Through Real-Time Tracking
The 'Rail Parcel App' is built to provide complete transparency. Users can access digital receipts, view detailed fee breakdowns, and use real-time tracking to monitor their shipments throughout the journey.
If customers prefer not to use the door-to-door delivery service, they can still opt to collect their parcels directly from the destination station within the designated free storage period.
While the service has commenced in Bilaspur, it is part of a much larger rollout. The initiative is set to expand across eight major cities, including Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, Ahmedabad, Hyderabad, Bengaluru, and Pune.
