Stricter Action Against Substandard Material Suppliers

The Ministry of Railways has taken a zero-tolerance approach toward compromised quality in infrastructure development. Minister Vaishnaw mandated that any instances of low-quality material supply or deliberate negligence be met with severe consequences, including the permanent blacklisting of responsible suppliers. This move aims to ensure that only the highest grade of equipment is utilized in expanding and maintaining the railway network, directly safeguarding passenger lives.

The high-level meeting was attended by the Chairman and CEO of the Railway Board, various Board members, Zonal General Managers, and Divisional Railway Managers (DRMs). Discussions centered on executing vital safety upgrades efficiently without compromising on quality control parameters.

Upgrading Signalling and Overhead Equipment

To eliminate operational hazards, the directives emphasize a mission mode approach to resolving signalling deficiencies and ensuring the timely replacement of overhead equipment (OHE) components that have reached the end of their service life. Faulty signalling and aging electrical wires are critical bottlenecks that require immediate intervention to maintain punctuality and prevent disruptions.

Furthermore, Minister Vaishnaw ordered intensified maintenance standards in railway workshops. Officials must specifically target electrical circuits and wiring to improve fire safety in coaches, alongside enhanced oversight of couplers and wheels for both wagons and coaches to prevent mechanical failures during transit.

Track Infrastructure and Festival Season Preparations

On the ground level, track safety remains paramount. Officials have been instructed to prioritize the upkeep of point machines, turnouts, and fasteners, with immediate arrangements to be made for the installation of any missing components.

Looking ahead at upcoming seasonal rushes, the meeting directed officers to coordinate closely with district and state administrations. This collaborative effort is intended to ensure that advance preparations are firmly in place at all major stations expecting increased passenger traffic due to upcoming festivals and fairs, ensuring smooth crowd management and comfortable travel experiences for all passengers.
