Railway Police Solve Two Lakh Theft at New Delhi Station and Arrest Two Suspects
The Railway Police successfully cracked a major passenger theft case at the New Delhi Railway Station leading to the arrest of two individuals involved in stealing two lakh rupees in cash and silver rings. Authorities have recovered 151500 rupees of the stolen cash and are actively interrogating the suspects to trace the remaining valuables and documents. Passengers travelling through major railway hubs are once again reminded to stay vigilant about their belongings amidst ongoing security measures.
Investigation And Complaint Details
The case began when a formal complaint was lodged at the New Delhi Railway Station police station on September 3. The victim reported that a bag containing two lakh rupees in cash, three silver rings, an Aadhaar card, a ration card, essential personal documents, and clothing was stolen. Acting swiftly on the complaint, the local police registered an e-FIR and initiated a comprehensive investigation to nab the culprits.
CCTV Footage Leads To Arrests
To crack the case, railway police officials meticulously scanned extensive CCTV footage from the station premises and surrounding areas. The surveillance video captured a suspicious individual fleeing with the victim's bag. Police identified this primary suspect as 33-year-old Ashwani Kumar. Further technical surveillance and localized leads helped authorities track down his accomplice, 36-year-old Dilip Rathore. Both accused individuals were successfully apprehended near the taxi stand on the Ajmeri Gate side of the New Delhi Railway Station.
Recovery Of Stolen Cash And Criminal History
During a thorough search following the arrests, police recovered 88000 rupees from Ashwani Kumar and 63500 rupees from Dilip Rathore, bringing the total recovered amount to 151500 rupees. Police record checks revealed that Ashwani Kumar has a criminal history with eight prior cases of robbery and theft registered against him across Uttar Pradesh. Senior Railway Police officials credited the breakthrough to persistent CCTV monitoring and swift police action. Police teams are continuing their efforts to recover the remaining cash, silver rings, and stolen documents.
