The first project involves a
1.95-kilometer bypass line connecting Sanjaygram to Dhachna station, designed to bypass Barsoi Junction in Bihar. This vital infrastructure upgrade is expected to
increase the speed of trains passing through the Katihar, Purnia, and Seemanchal regions while simultaneously reducing travel times and alleviating operational pressure at the busy junction. Furthermore, it will provide a direct, alternative route for freight trains traveling toward North Bengal and the Northeast, thereby boosting regional trade and economic activity.
The second project, also classified as a special railway project, comprises a
1.25-kilometer bypass line between Bagdogra and Gulma. This development will establish an alternative route to
bypass Siliguri Junction, significantly reducing the heavy traffic load on the station. Officials noted that this new line will directly benefit both passenger and freight trains traversing through Thakurganj and the Seemanchal area, ensuring smoother train operations and better punctuality for daily commuters and long-distance travellers alike.
