Railwan App: Massive Awareness Drive in Gopalganj Region
Indian Railways launches a major awareness campaign for the Railwan app in the Gopalganj region to simplify ticket booking and passenger services.

Indian Railways has launched an intensive awareness campaign across the Gopalganj district to promote the newly launched Railwan application. The drive specifically targets stations along the Chhapra-Thawe and Thawe-Siwan rail sections, ensuring passengers are well-informed about this unified digital platform.
A Unified Digital Experience
Designed by the Centre for Railway Information Systems (CRIS), the Railwan app aims to streamline the entire passenger journey. By consolidating various services into a single interface, it eliminates the need for multiple applications. Users can now perform a wide range of tasks, including:
- Booking tickets (integrating PRS and UTS)
- Checking PNR status
- Monitoring live train locations
- Verifying seat availability
- Lodging complaints
- Making digital payments
- Booking food, porters, or taxis
Rapid Adoption and Digital Growth
The app's popularity is evident in its recent statistics. As of March 15, 2026, Railwan has recorded a staggering 2.57 crore downloads, with an average of 7.64 lakh tickets being booked every single day. This massive surge follows the decision by Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw to integrate the Passenger Reservation System (PRS) and the Unreserved Ticketing System (UTS) into one platform to simplify travel.
Special Discounts for Passengers
To encourage more travelers to adopt digital booking, East Central Railway has introduced special incentives. CPRO Saraswati Chandra announced that passengers booking unreserved tickets via Railwan using digital payment methods are eligible for a 3% discount until July 14, 2026. This benefit is available in addition to the existing R-Wallet cashback offers.
Recognizing Local Excellence
The campaign has already yielded positive results. Following a successful awareness push conducted between October 1 and October 10, 2026, authorities recognized the hard work of local officials. Umakant, the Commercial Superintendent of Siwan Junction, was honored for his exceptional efforts in promoting the app. The recognition was presented by DRM Ashish Jain of the Varanasi Division, North Eastern Railway.
The Future of Railway Ticketing
Passengers should note that the transition to digital is permanent. The existing UTS mobile app is scheduled to be completely discontinued by March 2026, as Railwan is set to become the primary, all-in-one platform for all railway services.
