Raipur-Kurud Passenger Train Launched in Chhattisgarh
The regional transport landscape in Chhattisgarh received a major upgrade on October 20, 2026, with the official launch of the new Raipur-Kurud passenger train service. This initiative by the Ministry of Railways is set to significantly enhance connectivity for residents traveling to the state capital, Raipur.
High-Profile Flag-Off Ceremony
In a ceremony attended by top state officials, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw virtually flagged off the Raipur-Kurud service. The event also saw the launch of the Rowghat-Raipur passenger train, marking a significant step for regional mobility. Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai, along with Deputy Chief Ministers Arun Sao and Vijay Sharma, was present to witness the milestone.
Expanding the Rail Network
The expansion goes beyond new trains. The Ministry also inaugurated the newly completed 22-kilometer Abhanpur-Kurud broad gauge line. As a vital part of the Abhanpur-Dhamtari project, this new line will strengthen the rail network operated under the South East Central Railway (SECR) zone.
Infrastructure Upgrades in Raipur
To support the growing demand, the Ministry has also laid the foundation stone for a dedicated electric locomotive maintenance facility in Raipur. This facility will be essential for maintaining the efficiency and reliability of the state's expanding rail infrastructure.
