Raipur Railway Station Implements New Traffic Routes Amid Modernization Project
Raipur Railway Station has officially closed Gate Number 2 to facilitate ongoing modernization and redevelopment work, effective since 11 PM on Monday, August 31, 2026. This closure marks a significant phase in the station's upgrade, which aims to provide airport-like amenities across a 13-acre site at an estimated cost of ₹439 crore. Passengers using the station should note the new traffic arrangements implemented to ease movement during the construction phase.
To mitigate congestion during construction, railway authorities have established new traffic routes on a trial basis. Vehicles arriving from the Gurudwara side are now directed to proceed to Gate Number 3. Passengers traveling from the Express-way direction are permitted entry through the VIP Gate, with instructions to return via the Express-way or the Fafadih route after passenger drop-off. Additionally, auto-rickshaws previously stationed at Gate Number 2 have been relocated to the former car parking area situated behind the auto stand.
Redevelopment and Infrastructure Updates
The ambitious redevelopment is overseen by the South East Central Railway and the Rail Land Development Authority with Creative Group as the design architect. The project involves the demolition of existing structures to make way for modern concourses, wider access points, and improved passenger amenities. Divisional Railway Manager Dayanand previously noted in April 2026 that development works worth approximately ₹100 crore are also being executed across the Raipur Railway Division to enhance overall infrastructure.
Separately, the railway has announced a temporary diversion for heavy vehicles from September 2 to September 10, 2026, due to covered shed construction at the Road Under Bridge at Kugda Gate between the Kumhari-A Cabin and C-Cabin stations. During this window, heavy vehicle traffic will be rerouted via the Parsada Gate. Meanwhile, progress continues on the Udyog Nagar Railway Station in Nava Raipur, which is currently 70% complete and designed to provide metro-style connectivity between Nava Raipur and Raipur.
