The long-awaited Ramganj Mandi-Bhopal railway line project is entering its final stages of construction. Although the project began in 2004, work has accelerated recently with 187 kilometers of the total 276.5 kilometers already completed. The Kota division has finished the majority of its section, and the remaining 89 kilometers are scheduled for completion within the 2026-27 financial year to connect the capital city of Madhya Pradesh with Rajasthan.

The project involves a total investment of approximately 5,073 crore and aims to connect five districts including Kota, Jhalawar, Rajgarh, Sehore, and Bhopal. Recent speed trials between Khilchipur and Rajgarh City achieved a speed of 130 km/h on a 17.8 km section under the supervision of the Commissioner of Railway Safety. The West Central Railway is working towards finishing the entire infrastructure by December 2026 to start operations for the general public.

How will the new rail line impact travel time and regional connectivity?
Once operational, this rail link will reduce the distance between Bhopal and Kota by nearly 100 kilometers. This reduction is expected to save passengers between 2 to 3 hours of travel time compared to existing routes through Nagda or Bina. Additionally, the line will facilitate the transport of coal to the Kalisindh Thermal Power Plant in Jhalawar and bring several stations in Rajgarh and Sehore districts onto the railway map for the first time. Authorities confirmed that the Kota division has already completed 145 km out of its 165 km portion.
