Ranchi Festive Rush: New Rules & Special Trains

The Ranchi Railway Division has rolled out a massive plan to handle the expected influx of travelers during the upcoming festive season. With Ranchi and Hatia stations expected to see record numbers, authorities are implementing strict rules and infrastructure upgrades to ensure smooth movement and passenger safety. Senior DCM Shreya Singh confirmed that these arrangements are specifically designed to prioritize passenger convenience during this high-traffic period.
New Passenger Holding Facilities
To manage the crowds effectively, a significant new holding area has been established in the northern section of Ranchi station. This facility is designed to accommodate up to 2,500 passengers at a time. To ensure passenger comfort, the area is equipped with:
- Adequate seating arrangements
- Drinking water facilities
- Sanitation facilities
Additionally, the southern entrance of the station has been partially opened to ease the flow of commuters, a move previously announced by Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) Karunanidhi Singh. This southern end now features new ticket counters and Automatic Ticket Vending Machines (ATVMs) to speed up the ticketing process.
Strict Entry Rules and Price Changes
Authorities are implementing stricter controls to prevent station congestion. Key changes include:
- Platform Ticket Hike: The price of platform tickets at Ranchi and Hatia stations has been increased from ₹10 to ₹20. This regulation is effective from October 10 through November 29, 2026.
- Timed Entry: To keep platforms clear, passengers holding valid tickets will only be permitted to enter the platforms 30 minutes before their scheduled train departure.
Special Trains and Enhanced Security
To cater to the increased demand, the division is operating between 10 to 15 special trains and has added extra coaches to several regular services. To relieve pressure on Hatia station, certain special trains heading south will now make alternative stops at Balsiring, Govindpur Road, and Bano.
Safety has been bolstered through the increased deployment of Railway Protection Force (RPF) and Government Railway Police (GRP) personnel. The stations are also under constant CCTV surveillance. For any assistance, a dedicated helpline has been made available at 9835921955.
