Ranchi Railway Station is getting a major upgrade with a plan to build a modern passenger lounge. This project will cost approximately 12 crore rupees and will be able to accommodate 2250 passengers at once. The proposal has been sent to the headquarters for final approval after a detailed survey.
What facilities will be available in the new lounge?
The lounge will be built in an area of about 1920 square meters near the parcel office on the northern side. It will be divided into three zones: pre-ticketing, ticketing, and post-ticketing. The facility will include the following:
- 12 ticket counters and 4 Automatic Ticket Vending Machines (ATVMs)
- Comfortable seating arrangements and drinking water
- Clean toilets and support rooms
- Full CCTV surveillance for passenger safety
When will the construction start and end?
The construction of the passenger lounge is expected to begin in August or September 2026 once the headquarters gives the green light. This project is part of a larger redevelopment plan for the station. The southern gate redevelopment is already 90% complete and should be ready by June 2026. The entire station redevelopment project, which was started by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in July 2022, aims to be fully completed by 2027.
