Ranchi Station North Gate Closure: New Entry Rules from Nov 1

The massive Ranchi Railway Station redevelopment project is entering a critical new phase, bringing significant changes for daily commuters. Starting November 1, 2026, the station's North Gate, which serves Platform No. 1, will be permanently closed to facilitate essential construction work under the ₹447 crore revitalization plan.

Shift to South Gate Access

To ensure continuous passenger movement, all travelers are being redirected to the newly constructed South Gate, which provides access to Platform No. 6. To support this transition, Indian Railways and South Eastern Railway are developing new access routes through Chutia and the Railway Colony.

The South Gate has already been partially operational since October 6, 2026, helping to manage the surge in festive season traffic and alleviating congestion at the main terminal.

Commuter Navigation Guide

To avoid travel delays, passengers are advised to plan their routes based on their starting locations:

  • Travelers from Doranda, Hinoo, Birsa Chowk, Dhurwa, and the Airport: Please use the South Gate entry point.
  • Travelers from Koker, Booty More, Khelgaon, Harmu, and Kishoreganj: It is advised to route your journey via Doranda and Rajendra Chowk to reach the station.

Modernizing Ranchi Station

The new South Gate terminal is designed to meet modern standards, featuring dedicated entry and exit points, expanded parking facilities, and significantly improved infrastructure.

Ranchi Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) Karuna Nidhi Singh is currently overseeing the logistical adjustments and crowd management strategies to minimize inconvenience during this construction phase. This modernization initiative began in July 2022, when Prime Minister Narendra Modi virtually laid the foundation stone for the project, aiming to transform the station into a high-tech facility.
