Historic: Raoghat New Rail Services Launched in Chhattisgarh!

On October 20, 2026, a monumental chapter in Chhattisgarh's history was written as the Raoghat new rail services were officially inaugurated. For the first time since India gained independence, a train arrived at Raoghat, signaling a massive expansion of the regional rail network and bringing long-awaited connectivity to the area.
New Routes and Infrastructure Upgrades
The inauguration marked the opening of several critical rail links designed to streamline travel across the state. Key developments include:
- The opening of the 17.5-kilometer Taadoki-Raoghat rail section.
- The commencement of the Abhanpur-Kurud broad gauge line.
- New passenger services running between Raoghat and Raipur, as well as between Raipur and Kurud.
To support this growing network, a new electric rail engine maintenance facility has also been commissioned in Raipur, ensuring better upkeep of the rolling stock serving these routes.
Affordable Travel for Commuters
In a move to ensure that the benefits of modern transport reach everyone, the fare for the new Raoghat-Raipur journey has been set at just 55 rupees. This highly affordable pricing is specifically aimed at supporting students, job seekers, farmers, traders, and daily commuters who rely on consistent and low-cost transit.
A Massive Infrastructure Milestone
The arrival of the train is the culmination of significant investment and planning. The 95-kilometer Dalli Rajhara-Raoghat rail project was made possible through a memorandum of understanding with the SAIL-Bhilai Steel Plant, involving investments that have exceeded 3,800 crore rupees.
The inauguration ceremony featured virtual participation from Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw. Locally, Kanker Member of Parliament Bhojraj Nag and Antagarh MLA Vikramdev Usendi officially flagged off the Raoghat-Raipur MEMU passenger train at the Raoghat Railway Station.
Connecting the Tribal Heartlands
The expansion does not stop here. The central government has already approved the 140-kilometer Raoghat-Jagdalpur rail line project. With an estimated cost of 3,513.11 crore rupees, this project aims to connect the tribal-majority districts of Kondagaon and Narayanpur to the main rail grid.
Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai congratulated the public, noting that these developments integrate the remote regions of Bastar and South Chhattisgarh into the national rail map, creating vital avenues for economic progress.
Before the official passenger operations began, the section underwent rigorous technical trials, including a goods train movement on June 17, 2026, and comprehensive speed testing on September 22, 2026, to ensure maximum safety for all travelers.
