Historic Milestone: Raoghat Gets First Train Since Independence!

In a landmark moment for the state of Chhattisgarh, the remote region of Raoghat has finally been integrated into the national rail network. For the first time since India's independence, trains have officially reached Raoghat, marking a massive leap in regional connectivity and socio-economic development.
The inauguration of the Tadoki–Raoghat and Abhanpur–Kurud broad-gauge rail lines was carried out in the presence of Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai. The event also saw the participation of Union Minister of Railways, Ashwini Vaishnaw, who joined via video conferencing to celebrate this historic achievement.
New Passenger Services Flagged Off
To coincide with the opening of these new lines, two vital passenger train services were officially flagged off to provide immediate mobility to the local population:
- Raoghat–Raipur
- Raipur–Kurud
These services are expected to bridge the gap between remote southern Chhattisgarh and major urban hubs, offering citizens easier access to essential services like healthcare, education, and employment opportunities.
Massive Infrastructure Boost and Economic Impact
The completion of the 95-kilometre-long rail line between Dalli-Rajhara and Rowghat is a cornerstone of this project. Built at a cost of Rs 1,628 crore, the project was finalized with the completion of the critical 17.5-kilometre stretch between Tadoki and Rowghat.
Beyond passenger travel, this line is set to be a game-changer for the industrial sector. It will significantly accelerate the transportation of iron ore from the Raoghat region, providing much-needed support to the country's steel industry, including the Bhilai Steel Plant.
Strengthening Chhattisgarh's Railway Network
The development comes at a time when the Central Government is heavily investing in the state's infrastructure. Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai highlighted that Chhattisgarh has been allocated over Rs 7,000 crore under the current Railway Budget, reflecting a commitment to expanding rail infrastructure and passenger amenities.
"These projects would provide better rail connectivity to the remote areas of the state and impart fresh momentum to industrial, commercial, and socio-economic development," noted the Chief Minister.
In addition to the new lines, the foundation stone for a new Electric Locomotive Maintenance Facility in Raipur was also laid. Other key initiatives mentioned by Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw include the Kharsia–Parmalkasa double-line project and the Pendra Road–Bilaspur–Uslapur third rail line, which recently received Cabinet approval.
