Raxaul Railway Overbridge Construction: ₹157 Cr Project Starts
East Central Railway greenlights ₹157 crore project for two new ROBs in Raxaul to ease traffic congestion.

Commuters in Raxaul can finally breathe a sigh of relief as the long-awaited Raxaul railway overbridge construction has officially received the green light. The East Central Railway has released the layout plans and finalized the tender process for two major projects aimed at easing traffic congestion and improving connectivity.
Project Funding and Contract Details
The ambitious initiative, designed to address traffic issues at railway gate numbers 33A and 34A, carries an estimated cost of ₹157 crore. This funding was released by the central government in February 2026, as confirmed by MP Dr. Sanjay Jaiswal.
Following the successful completion of the tender process on October 2, 2026, the contract for both bridges was awarded to Messers Mehrotra Buildcon Private Limited, a firm based in Satna, Madhya Pradesh. Preparations are already moving quickly, with the railway construction department setting up a storage yard for machinery and materials on land owned by the Indian Oil Depot. Heavy equipment is expected to arrive on-site within a week.
Technical Specifications for Gate 33
The layout plan for the overbridge at gate number 33, which was issued by the Deputy Chief Engineer (Construction) and shared with academician Dr. Swayambhu Shalabh on October 25, 2026, outlines a detailed engineering structure. The design includes:
- An 80-meter approach road to ensure smooth traffic flow.
- A 360-meter viaduct, featuring a 120-meter slab spanning the railway line.
- A support system consisting of 11 pillars (P1 to P11) and two abutments (A1 and A2).
- A 215-meter reinforced earth (RE) wall on the southern side, extending toward the Raxaul police station.
Timeline for Construction
The project has been in the planning stages for several months. Soil testing was initiated in May 2026 to evaluate the feasibility of the project sites. According to railway authorities, physical construction work at gate number 33A is scheduled to commence immediately following the upcoming Dussehra festival.
