Railway Protection Force arrests ticket tout at Shalimar station with illegal passes
Railway authorities have intensified their crackdown on illegal railway ticket booking operations across major stations. A joint team comprising the Railway Protection Force from Shalimar post and the Crime Intelligence Branch successfully intercepted and arrested an individual involved in the unauthorized procurement and resale of reserved train tickets. The operation led to the recovery of digital data and images pointing towards illegal ticket transactions valued at over fifty thousand rupees.
Joint RPF and CIB Operation at Shalimar Station
Acting on credible intelligence, the joint team launched a targeted surveillance operation on 11 September at the computerized Passenger Reservation System counter of Shalimar railway station. The operation commenced around 10:45 AM. At approximately 11:05 AM, security personnel noticed suspicious movement from a person exiting reservation counter window number five. The individual was immediately intercepted and questioned by the undercover team.
Details of the Accused and Seized Material
The suspect was identified as 34-year-old Joginder Sao, a resident of Shalimar in the B. Garden police station jurisdiction of Howrah. A physical search yielded an Ahmedabad to Shalimar Tatkal reservation ticket for Train Number 22830, scheduled for journey on 12 September, valued at Rs 1,065. The accused failed to produce any valid authorization, license, or official document to justify possessing a ticket booked in another person's name.
During detailed interrogation, the accused confessed to purchasing and reselling railway reservation tickets to passengers for personal financial gain. A thorough inspection of his mobile phone revealed digital evidence including details and photographs of seven railway tickets, comprising four current and three old tickets. The total cumulative value of these illegally handled tickets was estimated at Rs 54,221.
Legal Action Taken Under Railway Act
The Crime Intelligence Branch team seized the recovered ticket and related digital material as evidence. The accused was officially arrested under Section 179(2) of the Railway Act. A formal case was registered against him under Section 143 of the Railway Act at the Shalimar RPF post on 11 September under case number 1008/2026. The arrested individual along with the seized materials and documents has been presented before the competent judicial authority for further legal proceedings while ongoing investigations continue.
