Railway Protection Force recovers over sixty lakh rupees at Kharagpur station

Railway Protection Force personnel have recovered Rs 60,55,440 in cash during routine baggage screening at Kharagpur railway station under Operation Satark. The operation was conducted on September 16 near the newly constructed foot overbridge on the northern side of the station when RPF Head Constable Manoj Kumar noticed a suspicious bag during security checks. The passenger carrying the bag was identified as Chukka Kishore Kumar, aged 53, a resident of Rajahmundry in Andhra Pradesh. As the individual failed to produce valid documents or provide a satisfactory explanation regarding the huge amount of cash, he was escorted to the Kharagpur RPF post for further questioning.

Involvement of Income Tax Department

Following initial detention and as per the advice of the Government Railway Police, official information was sent to the Directorate of Investigation of the Income Tax Department located in Kolkata on September 17. Responding to the intimation, Income Tax Inspector Amit Kumar arrived at the Kharagpur RPF post to verify the seizure. Under the direct supervision of the Assistant Security Commissioner of the Kharagpur workshop, the sealed bag was opened in the presence of income tax officials and RPF personnel. The entire counting and verification procedure was thoroughly videographed and the cash was counted using currency counting machines. The total recovery amounted to Rs 60,55,440 in cash, which along with the individual was handed over to the Income Tax Department with a formal acknowledgment for further legal proceedings.
