Saharsa Junction Train Services Face Disruptions Due To Foot Overbridge Construction Work
Railway operations at Saharsa Junction under the East Central Railway faced significant disruptions due to ongoing infrastructure development works. Passengers travelling through this station experienced delays and cancellations as authorities implemented traffic and power blocks to accelerate the construction of a new passenger facility. A traffic and power block of two hours and 15 minutes was enforced between 7:15 AM and 9:30 AM on Platforms 1 and 2.
The Saharsa-Samastipur Passenger train was cancelled and more than 10 mail, express, and passenger services suffered long delays.
The Saharsa-Sealdah Hate Bazar Express remained cancelled for the second consecutive day due to a landslide in New Farakka.
Additional blocks are scheduled for September 8 and 9, 2026, daily from 7:15 AM to 9:15 AM for girder launching.
Details of the Infrastructure Work
The temporary suspension of train movement was necessitated by the installation of a mast for the station's third Foot Overbridge. The construction work was performed by the Traction Distribution department right after the departure of the Lalitgram-Patna Rajrani Express. This new foot overbridge is being built to significantly improve passenger movement and station accessibility under the ambitious Amrit Bharat Station Scheme.
Prior to this latest phase, 11 heavy girders were successfully mounted on August 27, 2026, taking the total girder installation count to 22. Senior railway officials have been closely monitoring the progress, and a large crane has already been stationed at the junction premises to speed up the remaining construction activities.
Upcoming Disruptions and Passenger Advisory
To ensure timely completion of the project, the Railway Construction Department has announced additional traffic and power blocks on September 8 and 9, 2026. These scheduled restrictions will be in place daily from 7:15 AM to 9:15 AM to facilitate the launching of more girders on Platforms 1 and 2. Passengers planning journeys originating from or passing through Saharsa Junction on these dates are strongly advised to verify their train status with IRCTC before heading to the station to avoid inconvenience.
