An MP inspected the Sakri railway station redevelopment under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme to review new passenger amenities and work quality.

A Member of Parliament recently conducted a formal inspection of the Sakri railway station redevelopment to assess the ongoing construction and renovation progress being carried out under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme.
During the visit, the legislator reviewed the quality of work and evaluated the new passenger amenities currently being integrated into the station infrastructure to ensure they meet the high standards required for modern transit hubs.
A New Look for Sakri Station
Sakri station has recently gained significant attention for its improved aesthetic. As part of the ongoing redevelopment, the station building was observed to be brightly illuminated in October 2026, marking a visible step in its transformation into a modernized facility.
The Vision Behind the Amrit Bharat Scheme
The redevelopment is part of a massive national mission launched by the Ministry of Railways in December 2022. The scheme aims to modernize 1,340 identified railway stations across India, turning them into vibrant city centers.
The initiative focuses on transforming transit hubs into city centers with enhanced facilities such as elevators, ramps, and escalators for Divyangjan accessibility, alongside sustainable, eco-friendly infrastructure designs.
Infrastructure and Financial Support
The modernization works prioritize long-term master planning to improve multimodal integration and connectivity. To support these massive upgrades, financial resources are channeled through the railway’s Plan Head-53 for Customer Amenities.
For the 2026–27 fiscal year, the following financial details were noted:
- Total Allocation: ₹11,972 crore for the fiscal year.
- Utilization: Over ₹4,600 crore has been utilized by the mid-year mark.
The inspection at Sakri serves as part of the rigorous monitoring process required to ensure that all modernization works meet the standardized requirements of the Ministry's city-centric redevelopment vision.
