Samdari-Bhildi Section: Train Speeds to Hit 110 kmph
North Western Railway is upgrading the Samdari-Bhildi section to 110 kmph as part of a massive ₹3,530 crore infrastructure project.

The North Western Railway (NWR) is gearing up for a major operational boost on the Samdari-Bhildi rail corridor. In a move designed to enhance both passenger and freight efficiency, the railway is set to increase the Samdari-Bhildi train speed from the current 100 kmph to 110 kmph.
Massive ₹3,530 Crore Infrastructure Overhaul
This speed enhancement is a central part of a much larger infrastructure project aimed at doubling the existing 272-kilometer rail line. The project, which connects Luni, Samdari, and Bhildi under the Jodhpur Division, has been sanctioned with a massive budget exceeding ₹3,530 crore.
To facilitate this upgrade, extensive earthwork is being carried out, alongside the construction of major bridges across several key rivers, including:
- Luni River
- Jawai River
- Sagi River
- Sukdi River
Advanced Technical Upgrades for Safety and Capacity
To support higher traffic volumes and ensure seamless operations at higher speeds, the track is undergoing a comprehensive technical transformation. The upgrade includes the installation of heavy-duty 60 kg 90 UTS rails and the implementation of advanced electronic interlocking systems to bolster safety standards.
Additionally, yard remodeling is currently underway at critical stations, such as Jalore, to optimize train movements and reduce congestion. These improvements are part of a larger vision to create a robust corridor capable of handling modern rail demands.
Strengthening Rajasthan-Gujarat Connectivity
The development of this corridor is strategically vital for national connectivity. By upgrading the Samdari-Bhildi section, the NWR is strengthening the rail link between Rajasthan and Gujarat. This provides a much more efficient and faster route for trains traveling toward Mumbai and South India.
Aligned with the PM Gati Shakti framework, the project is being built with a future-ready approach. While the immediate focus is on reaching 110 kmph, the infrastructure is being designed to potentially support speeds of up to 160 kmph in the future.
Boosting Freight with Double-Stack Containers
The project also places a heavy emphasis on freight logistics. The installation of high-rise Over Head Equipment (OHE) will allow for the clearance of double-stack containers, significantly increasing the capacity and efficiency of goods movement across this critical industrial and transit artery.
